A business opportunity atlas as a sector-reading tool

Moved industry structure analysis out of a rarely-opened report chapter and into views that can be traversed by sector and region.

Problem

  • Sector competitiveness analysis existed, but was buried in long documents that were hard to compare across regions.
  • Each region used slightly different sector definitions, making direct comparison misleading.

Approach

  • Standardised sector definitions first, and flagged explicitly where source data could not be reconciled.
  • Applied the industry structure framework consistently across all sectors, not only the headline ones.
  • Designed views so one screen answers one question, with traversal down to the underlying indicators.

Outcome

  • Cross-sector and cross-region comparison now happens on one shared set of definitions.
  • Data limitations are stated inside the product rather than hidden in a footnote.
